Curtis Ray, Kids Pastor
“The church must become a place where children of all ages (including infants) feel at home. Multimedia, education, rewards, and lots of fun can be an attraction, but it all has to achieve the primary purpose of leading children to become a part of the family of God. My goal is for children to become one of God’s children who find themselves in a church where they have teachers who are like family.” Curtis Ray
Children’s ministry is Curtis’ passion because he understands the importance of connecting with a child. He has a track record of being able to translate his passion into a vibrant, Kingdom-building ministry. This is done by encouraging and nurturing a sense of community and belonging in the ministry. In all of his previous positions this led to increased volunteerism, helping to reduce the teacher to student ratio. Curtis is burdened to reach all children for Christ, but his burden does not stop there, he desires to infuse God and Biblical education into their lives. He strongly believes that communication is key not only on a child’s level but to include and involve entire families, volunteers and staff using letters, email, interactive websites and blogs. He strongly believes that church should be a place where teachers become extended family in the eyes of children – someone to encourage and truly know the children’s needs and dreams. He has implemented programs that increased attendance in all previous Children’s Ministry positions, for instance a Club 56 specifically for fifth and sixth graders, after-school tutoring, mission week and spring break camp.
To achieve these goals, Curtis writes, combines and adapts various media and curriculum to create the optimum environment for children to learn Biblical principles. He previously published and developed programs for www.animatedkidsbible.com.
Curtis’ education includes a Bachelor of Arts – Pastoral Studies from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois and a Masters of Divinity from Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon.
